The main objective of this project is to reduce the environmental impact of a consumer electronic by 50%. Using the Okala Impact Factors, I was able to analyze the existing product life cycle and reduce its environmental impact.
Why use a Dishdryer?
Major Problems: Often times, sinks are located close to a window where the sunlight feeds growing bacteria, causing a humid environment allowing for bacteria to grow. Often times, people do not wash their dishes well enough before placing them in the dishwasher, creating the spread of viruses and bacteria. This can lead to many illnesses such as colds, flu and food borne illnesses.
Tearing and Exploring the original product
Product Teardown: When taking the product apart, I was able to identify the material weight and manufacturing process for each component. I concluded that this product is overweight, exceeds materials, and takes up a large amount of space. There is an overuse of packaging compared to the size of the actual product.
